FEM-Based Power Transformer Model for Superconducting and Conventional Power Transformer Optimization

There were many promising superconducting materials discovered in the last decades that can significantly increase efficiency of large power transformers. However, these machines are generally custom-made and tailored to given application. During design process most economical should be selected from thousands applicable solutions a short period. Due nonlinearity task, cost-optimal transformer design, which has smallest costs during transformers’ planned lifetime, is usually not with highest efficiency. topic’s importance, simplified models published literature resolve this problem. only few papers considered preliminary optimization problem case transformers none them made comparison validated conventional model. This paper proposes novel FEM-based two-winding model, used calculate main dimension designs. The stored unified JSON-file format, easily integrated into an evolutionary or genetic algorithm-based optimization. shows methods their accuracy on 10 MVA 1.2 Moreover, simple cost was performed for two realistic economic scenarios. results show some cases cheaper, but less efficient, more economic.
